Of Ngāti Tamaterā, Ngāti Maru, Ngāti Whanaunga and Ngāti Paoa descent, Liane has a planning and resource management background working for iwi in the Hauraki and Tāmaki regions.

A recognised mandated negotiator for Ngāti Tamaterā in treaty negotiations with the Crown in Tāmaki and Hauraki, Liane is also an elected trustee of the Ngāti Tamaterā Treaty Settlement Trust.

Formerly a member of the Auckland and Waikato Conservation Boards, she is currently a tangata whenua member of the Hauraki Gulf Forum.
